Brake Repair and Brake Checks in Tomball

Brakes wear every time you use them, and they warn you before they go: squeaking, grinding, a soft pedal, pulling to one side or a shake when you stop. Don’t wait on those.

We’re a full brake shop. We replace brake pads and rotors, calipers, brake lines and master cylinders, fix brake fluid leaks and scan ABS warning lights. We measure everything first, so you only pay for what actually needs doing. Catching worn pads early usually saves the rotors.

Driving a classic with drum brakes? We do drum to disc brake conversions too. Looking for a brake mechanic near you in Tomball? Call 936-661-2675 and tell us what your brakes are doing. A hard brake pedal on a late-model Silverado or Sierra is often the brake assist; more on our Chevy repair page.

BRAKE REPAIR

What Your Brakes Are Telling You

Squeaking, grinding, shaking or a soft pedal each point to a different brake repair. Here’s what each one fixes and the signs that tell you which one you need.

Brake Pad Replacement

Brake pad replacement is the most common brake repair. Pads wear down every time you stop. Most have a small metal wear indicator that squeals when the pad gets thin. That squeal is the warning to replace them before they damage the rotors.

At what thickness should brake pads be replaced?

New pads usually have around 10–12 mm of material. Most shops recommend replacing them at about 3 mm (1/8 inch).

How often do brake pads need replacing?

There’s no fixed mileage. Stop-and-go traffic wears pads much faster than highway driving, so the pads should be measured at each service.

How much does brake pad replacement cost?

Pads only is the cheapest brake job. Wait until they grind and it usually becomes pads and rotors.

Why are my brakes squeaking when the pads are good?

Squeaks can also come from dust, rust on the rotors after rain, or missing anti-squeal shims and grease. A check tells you which.

Signs: Squeal when braking · pads look thin through the wheel · brake warning light on some cars.

Best forYour brakes squeak, but they don’t grind or shake.

BRAKE REPAIR FAQ

Brake Repair Questions

Squeaks, grinding, a spongy pedal and the ABS light, answered.

Why are my brakes squeaking?

Most often it’s the wear indicator, a small metal tab that squeals when the brake pads are getting low. It can also be dust, rust after rain or glazed pads, but a squeak that doesn’t go away needs checking.

Why are my brakes grinding?

Grinding usually means the pads are worn through and metal is rubbing on the rotor. Stopping takes longer and the rotors get chewed up fast, so get them checked as soon as you can.

Why is my brake pedal spongy?

A soft or spongy pedal usually means air in the brake lines, a brake fluid leak or a worn master cylinder. It’s a safety problem, so don’t keep driving on it.

Why is my ABS light on?

The ABS light means the anti-lock system has logged a fault, often a wheel speed sensor or its wiring. Your normal brakes usually still work, but ABS may not. We scan the code and find the cause.

How do I know if I need new brake pads or rotors?

Squeaking points to worn pads. Grinding, a shaking pedal or a lip on the edge of the rotor usually means the rotors need replacing too. We measure both before recommending either.

How much does it cost to replace brake pads and rotors?

It depends on the vehicle and whether it needs pads only, or pads and rotors. Call 936-661-2675 with your year, make and model.

Where can I get my brakes checked in Tomball?

Bring it to Brix Auto Group at 27813 Calvert Rd, Tomball, TX 77377. We check and repair brakes Monday to Saturday.
